- Roughly where you are, so we can tell you we cover it
If it’s an emergency, say so straight away and turn off your stop tap if you can. It’s usually under the kitchen sink.
What happens after you call
First, we listen. You tell us what’s happening, and we ask a few short questions about where the problem is, whether the water is off, and how long it’s been going on. From that we can usually tell you whether it sounds urgent, whether there’s anything you can do safely in the meantime, and roughly what’s involved.
Then we talk about cost. Quotes are free over the phone, and we’ll be clear about anything we can’t know until we see it. Hidden leaks and blocked drains sometimes turn out to be different from how they first look. If the job isn’t one for us, because it’s a gas problem, the water company’s pipe, or a shared sewer, we’ll tell you who to contact instead.
If you’re a tenant, it’s worth letting your landlord or letting agent know before booking any non-urgent work, as they may have their own arrangements. In an emergency, stop the water first and then call.
